It’s a proven fact that an average person will spend a very good fraction of their life at work – maybe up to and even more than half, in most cases. If one event is going to take up this much of your time, then you owe it to yourself to find a career and company that brings you happiness and fulfilment. After all, no one wants to live a life full of unhappiness.
So, should you stay or should you go?
From my observations and research, here are a few tell-tale signs that it might be time for you to leave your company or even, change your career path.

Living the Status Quo
If you’ve been in the same job for some time and keep getting turned down for promotion after promotion without a valid reason, it might be time to take your talents elsewhere.
You Don’t Feel Challenged
It’s easy to lose interest when you are not challenged in your job. Having milestones, challenges, and projects to look forward to will help keep you on your toes and give you a reason to be excited about going to work.
When these are lacking, not only do you stop learning and growing in your career, but you can begin to lose passion and start going through the motions just to get the job done.
You are Underpaid
If compensation is something you value and you start to notice that your company is pinching pennies with you, it could be time to pack your bags.
You should always know what your position and skillset is worth so you don’t get taken advantage of. If your company is not willing to match the market rate, it may be time for you to leave.
Your skills did not come easy, neither did they come cheap. You should be compensated adequately for them. Websites like LinkedIn and Glassdoor are great resources to get a gauge for the worth of your position.
You’re Unhappy at Work
Nothing warns you its time to leave your company more than this.
Does it feel hard getting out of bed to go work in the morning? I’m not talking about being tired – at least, not physically. If you do not look forward to the next day at work, or are always depressed at the desk, that job is not meant for you.
It might pay the bills, but your mental health is much more important. Leave that job and go for something that gives you that fulfilment that you deserve.
You Can’t Be Yourself At Work
Finding the right cultural fit is equally as important as finding the right position. If you feel as though you have to put on a mask every time you step into the office, maybe it’s not the right place for you.
If you get criticized for celebrating your culture and being yourself, it’s certainly not the right place for you, unless you’re willing to tolerate it. It’s a proven fact that companies that encourage authenticity in their workforce are more productive and effective. Don’t settle for less than you deserve.
